Outdoor Chef - Cooking Methods

The heart of the OUTDOORCHEF gas kettle barbecue is the EASY FLIP funnel, a perfect example of the innovative flair of the OUTDOORCHEF engineers. The EASY FLIP funnel allows you to switch the heat distribution from direct to indirect in a matter of seconds whilst acting as an intelligent protective shield against damaging flare-ups and unpleasant smoke emissions.

  Direct Heat - For grilling at very high temperatures or with the cast-iron griddle, the upper funnel is placed in the kettle with the small opening at the top. This creates high, concentrated heat in the middle of the cooking   grid or griddle. The kettle lid is not absolutely necessary for this method of cooking. Excellent for creating a beautiful seared pattern on your steak.

 

 Indirect Heat - For indirect barbecuing and roasting, the upper funnel is placed inside the kettle with the large opening pointing upwards. The heat from the gas burner rises up along the sides of the kettle, distributing an even, indirect heat from all sides. With the lid on, there's no need to turn the food at all throughout the cooking process. Excellent for steaming vegetables or simmering a roast.

Baking Plate - Large Funnel – normal position, Grill – standard position, Lid - Closed.

Universal Pan - Large Funnel – volcano position, Grill – remove, replace with universal pan, Lid - open.

Wok - Large Funnel – volcano position, Grill – remove, replace with wok support and wok, Lid - open.

Cast Iron Griddle - Large Funnel – volcano position, Grill – remove, replace with cast iron griddle, Lid - open.
