Is your chainsaw ready for action or is it still in hibernation from last winter?
Now is the perfect time to give your chainsaw some TLC especially if it’s not seen any action for a while. We know how important chopping logs as a source of heat is going to be this winter, so if like most of us you haven’t used your saw for several months, then now may be a good time to break it out of hibernation and check if it is ready for tackling the jobs ahead.
The first and most important advice we can give is do not start your chainsaw if it was stored with last year’s fuel in the tank! Drain this immediately and refuel with a good quality fresh 2-stroke/Petrol mix (please check out our recent Blog- Let’s Talk Fuel, which emphasizes the importance of a good fuel mix).
If you have left fuel in your machine whilst its been in storage and it fails to start or does not run properly then there is a good chance that the stale fuel may have corroded several key components. If this is the case, then we would recommend getting the chainsaw looked at by a qualified technician in the first instance.
However, if your trusty old saw starts and runs as it should then it may just need a good old clean and service, this will then ensure you get the best out of your machine, so it won’t let you down this winter.
Whether you’re breaking an old chainsaw out of retirement or have one you use frequently and want to keep it in tip top condition then we have everything you need to give your machine the attention it deserves.
Here at World of Power we offer a wide range of machine Servicing by our fully trained and top brand qualified technician. So, if you don’t feel confident or even know where to start when it comes to serving your chainsaw then why not pop in to see us at our Buxton Showroom, with our quick turnaround we can get your machine booked in and serviced so you will be ready to chop those logs in no time.
Alternatively, if you own a STIHL chainsaw, we have a great range of DIY service kits, these contain all the key components to carry out a routine service on the engine of a petrol STIHL power tool and includes air filter, fuel filter and spark plug. All kits are model specific with a handy QR code which takes you to a “How To” video for quick and easy fitting.
We also have a quick reference guide which will help you identify the right service kit for your machine.
Did you know we also offer a chain sharpening service? If you are local to Buxton why not drop in with your blunt chains and we can sharpen them for you. Especially if you start to notice during cutting that there is a lot of saw dust rather than shavings, then this is a big tell tale sign that your chain is no longer sharp enough.
If you prefer to perform these important tasks from the comfort of your own home, then we have a full range of suitable replacement chains and sharpening kits available to purchase in store or from our website.
Make sure you also keep topped up on those other vital chainsaw necessities such as chain oil and 2-stroke so that you will never be caught out in the middle of a job. Making sure that your chain is properly oiled and lubricated will improve cutting performance whilst also reducing wear on the chain.
Also new this year from STIHL is their model specific Cut Kits, each consist of two spare chainsaw chains and one guide bar. Like any cutting tool these consumable parts are prone to wear over time and even the best saw chain can become blunt within a few seconds and guide bar rails can become worn. These handy kits are perfect for keeping you fully prepared for work by having a spare bar and chains ready for when you least expect it.
Don't forget to always check your user manual if you come across any difficulties with your chainsaw. The maintenance and care guide can usually be found at the back of your manual and has a handy table advising possible solutions for general troubleshooting.
It's not just winter you need to be prepared for; you can also be "Storm Ready" all year round with a fully serviced chainsaw. Don't get caught out during a freak weather event, you know what this British weather is like! Fallen trees and branches can cause obstructions around your home and garden and there is nothing worse than having to deal with the aftermath of storm damage. So, keep those trees and over hanging branches maintained and cut back to limit the chance of any destruction whilst also topping up your log stores by recycling the branch trimmings.
