Delivering important information on your garden power tools, Stihl connected is a new smart way to manage your equipment.
Designed for both professional and domestic users who wish to get the best from their Stihl machine, the Stihl connected app is used via a Bluetooth connector and a Smartphone app (yes it’s really that simple and who doesn’t love a new gadget!?).
This smart connector allows you to monitor the run time of your machines and advises you when maintenance schedules are due as well as giving you useful hints and tips for your machine. All Stihl tools require simple maintenance be it a visual check before use, exchanging service parts such as air filters and spark plugs (see our previous blog on the Stihl Service Kits available) and of course more technical servicing. All this information can be found within your owner’s manual but many of us don’t have the time or patience to read them (disclaimer – World of Power ALWAYS recommends that you DO read the manual!) or some of us simply forget the service is due.
What is Stihl Connected?
Stihl connected allows you to keep on top of servicing and monitor working time on tools. There are three parts to Stihl Connected:
- Stihl Smart Connector
- Stihl Connected App
- Stihl Connected Portal
Stihl Smart Connector
This compact connector can be attached to any petrol, diesel, cordless or electric machine from the Stihl range OR other manufacturers (newer and older machines included). Once mounted it will record the machines operating hours, this is easily mounted with the included hardware pack.
Stihl Connected App
Once installed, set up and synced with the Stihl smart connector, the app will receive the information from the tools smart connector. If the Smartphone device is out of range to the Smart Connector it will store the data and resubmitted to the app as soon as the Bluetooth connection is available again.
On this app you can see an overview of all machines which feature the Smart Connector in one place. All the information is displayed in an organised fashion with documents and hints and tips on maintaining the tools.
Stihl Connected Portal
For those professional users or fleet managers you can use the website based portal to manage a large number of machines with ease. Managers are able to analyse machines usage looking at when, where and for how long the machine has been used to help improve efficiency of the business.
For those businesses who need their tools to complete their daily workload, World of Power can view detailed information about the users machines via the portal (with the users permission of course!) meaning we can manage upcoming maintenance and repair work more quickly and efficiently offering the user less down time. We can even order in the parts for the service prior to the machine being bought in for service to speed up the wait time!
How to use The Stihl Connected App
This app can be downloaded on iOS or Google Play. You will need an email account to sign up to the app which allows you access to connect your Smart Connector and view your tools information. Firstly when you log in you will be asked which product you wish to connect, this can be done by scanning the QR code on the machine to identify the model and serial number (most new machines have the QR code).
Next you need to add the Smart Connector to your machine, the app will show you a ‘how-to’ video on how to fit this correctly and where is the best position on each machine to mount this. Once the Smart Connector is paired with the app, you will be able to see a complete list of machines and their status.
