2023 is finally upon us and would you believe that it's almost the end of the longest month ever! However there is no better way to start your year than with a realistic New Year’s Resolution of “Keeping on top of your garden and property maintenance.” It’s a lot easier to stick to than all the other resolutions you’ve probably already broken, but don't worry we’ve already caved too, so no judgement here! We all know that January is the free trial month anyway.
January is the best time of year for you to start afresh and get your garden in order ready for the upcoming year ahead. The weather is cold and miserable, but the evenings are slowly getting brighter and lighter and with this it will soon mean more time to spend outside and enjoy our gardens again.
We may still be in the middle of winter, but your garden is continuing to grow and there are still plenty of jobs to get done. The RHS advises that now is the perfect time to prune certain types of fruit trees, so if you are lucky enough to have inherited an Apple or Pear tree in your garden then now would be ideal to give it some TLC, you can read more about their guide to pruning here.
You may also have green houses, conservatory’s, driveways, or gutters that are all looking a bit worse for wear and covered in wet leaves, moss, and grime. On one of those dry sunnier days, you could take the opportunity and give them a good pre-spring clean. So why not invest in a shiny new pressure washer, clean down those grimy outbuildings and driveways with ease. We have a fabulous range of electric jet washers to suit every cleaning need, from top leading brands such as STIHL, Husqvarna and Nilfisk.
Electric pressure washers are ideal for outdoor use, lightweight and portable wheeled designs, just plug in to your mains, attach the hose to your water source and switch it on, no oil or engine maintenance required! With a range of adjustable nozzles, bar pressures and water flow rate, as well as a durable high-pressure hose and lance, you can tailor the spray to each job. Owning a pressure washer will make short work of cleaning down patios, decking, vehicles and bikes in no time.
If you are wanting to upgrade a few tools now is a perfect chance to make the switch from Petrol power to battery operated. Cordless power is becoming more and more popular with domestic homeowners and professionals alike. Offering the added benefits of low noise, lower running costs and no direct emissions, the handy and convenient option of interchangeable batteries allows you to build on your garden range of machinery. Battery powered products are an alternative to messy petrol tools without compromising on power and they have been designed to be light weight and low maintenance. No power cords make the machinery much more portable and cleaner without the need for mixing, carrying, and storing fuel.
Cordless machinery has come a long way and the collection is bigger than ever. Makita has always been dominant in the battery market with their wide range of battery power tools and garden machinery. Their 18v LXT one battery fits all system was one of the World’s first and largest cordless platforms. Go from drilling a hole in your wall, to mowing your lawn or even listening to a radio or powering a vacuum and kettle all from one battery. The interchangeable batteries allow for endless opportunities and the ability to grow your cordless machinery army.
With the Makita range you can build on your DIY power tools whilst also continuing to grow a collection of compatible garden machinery. Check out the range here.
It also doesn’t just stop there; STIHL also offer a great range of cordless systems aimed at Domestic and Professional users. Offering 4 categories to suit a variety of needs and tasks, The AS handheld range has a small removeable battery and ideal for smaller garden maintenance jobs, included in the range is the GTA26 Cordless Tree and Shrub Pruner, it’s lightweight and perfect for small chainsaw jobs, it comes with a 10cm bar and chain and proved to be a very popular product last year.
Moving on to the AI range, which contains three useful and popular gardening products all of which have been designed with an integrated battery. We have the BGA45 Cordless Leaf Blower, HSA45 20” Cordless Hedge trimmer and FSA45 Grass Trimmer. Little preparation is required before use, and each are lightweight and easy to handle making them ideal for smaller gardens and properties.
Going up the range we then come to the AK Domestic System, featuring plenty of powerful yet affordable garden machinery suitable for the home gardener with medium to large size gardens. This compact power range is powered by a 36V lithium-ion AK battery, which are interchangeable between chainsaws, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, grass trimmers and even lawn mowers. The biggest benefit from this homeowner selection of cordless machinery is the low noise levels and no direct emissions making them very user and neighbour friendly, so quiet, that even ear protection is not required.
Keep an eye out for Husqvarna this year too, there are sure to be some new surprises within their cordless battery range coming soon!
Last and finally not least within our recommended cordless range of products is the STIHL AP System. Designed for use in larger gardens or professional applications this pro range again offers quiet and emission free usage, but also teamed with longer battery life and exceptional performance. Boasting many features including quick charge times, lower vibrations, and lightweight designs to reduce user fatigue when in use for longer periods. So if you needed something with a little more “oompft” then this would be the ideal range for you.
If you’re not quite ready to make the switch to cordless machinery, fear not as we still have a huge selection of ever-growing petrol garden tools.
