But before you get going, you should check to see whether your chainsaw is working correctly after being in the garage / shed.

Five simple steps to optimise results:

1 – Check your cutting attachment for damage.

2 – Clean your air filter and cylinder fins.

3 – Correctly tension the chain.

4 – Fill the tank – first with FRESH chain oil, then a FRESH fuel mix. Important to use a fresh mix as can alter the running of your  machine or mean it will not start.

5 – Check the chain brake is working as it should before using the chainsaw.

You should never work without lubricating your chain! With chain oil available in 1 litre, 5 litre or 20 litre drums there is no excuse not to have your chain lubricated!

Here at World of Power we also recommend protective clothing.

Some think it’s a ploy by manufacturers to get a little extra money out of you when purchasing but protective equipment is definitely not a ploy but a big big plus! When working with outdoor machinery you need to ensure you have the correct protection to enable to you carry out the job at hand with safety.

Head, Eyes and Face

A sturdy helmet shell, face visor and ear protection is a must when working with garden machinery. Combined face and ear protection always proves a winner in this areas, ear protection reduces engine noise so your ears are less likely to get damaged – hearing at an older age is always a bonus! Whilst face protection keeps flying debris and dust away from your face and eyes leaving all vital senses protected.

Body

From keeping warm to keeping seen with hi-vis clothing this is something people take for granted. The right clothing can keep you warm, safe and ensure you are well protected whilst using garden machinery. Husqvarna have a wide range of clothing suitable for  many tasks – from chainsawing to brush cutting, these are two very different tasks which often require different work wear.

Hands

Not only will gloves keep your hands warm at this time of year meaning you can work for longer periods, they also offer protection from flying debris such as stone or filings. Our hands are one of our best tools (well for most anyway!) it’s important to keep them protected to ensure you can continue to make masterpieces along the way!

Feet

The basis of good footwear is they offer a stable base for you to work from which is always a good start. A sturdy steel toe cap boot can protect your feet from falling objects, cut resistant boots offer protection from any mishaps with machinery such as chainsaws ensuring that you'll still have an intact fully working limb if anything was to go wrong – after all it only takes a second to loose concentration! Made from breathable waterproof material which is ideal for use all year round.
