“Autumn leaves are falling down, red and yellow, orange and brown. Turning, turning round and round, down, down, down. Take a rake and rake them up. Rake them up, pile them high. Pile them high up to the sky. Jump right in!”
It’s official, Autumn is here. This is the perfect season for wrapping up warm for a chilly walk or a cosy evening in front of a roaring fire. It is the ideal time to give your garden a good tidy before the cold weather sets in, and one of the biggest tasks can be clearing all those fallen leaves.
Those pesky Autumn leaves fall in vast quantities during October and November, quickly covering lawns, borders and driveways. If left in place they can cause slippery pathways and soggy unattractive looking leaf piles all over your lawn which have the potential to kill any plants that die down for the winter, whose roots remain alive, ready to send up new top growth next spring. However, be sure to leave some leaves under your hedges as these can provide perfect shelter for wildlife during the winter.
Keeping on top of your garden through the colder months may not be as inviting as it was during the warm days of summer. As just when you think you have it all under control, there will be another fresh batch of leaves waiting to be cleared and you will feel like you need to start all over again.
There are various ways to collect and remove leaves. The basic more labour-intensive way is to use a rake and pick the leaves up by hand or with a leaf grabber. But the easiest way to move or collect leaves is to use a Leaf Blower.
With tons of options to choose from, it is safe to say there will be a Leaf Blower to suit your needs. Whether you prefer Electric, Petrol or Cordless, the options are endless and are guaranteed to clear your garden of unwanted fallen leaves in no time.
Let’s start with Electric blower/vacs, ideally suited for smaller gardens, a perfect example from this selection would be the STIHL SHE71 Leaf Blower Vacuum. This 2-in-1 model offers the versatility of blowing, collecting and shredding of debris, with a 14:1 shredding ratio, whilst easy to covert between modes and a generous 10m power cable, this complete kit is perfect for maintaining your garden this autumn. Electric blowers are generally cheaper to buy but do restrict you to only being able to use them near an electric power source.
Cordless Leaf Blower and Vacuums are a more economically friendly alternative to petrol blowers without compromising on the power. Designed to be lightweight, compact and low maintenance, they offer zero direct emissions or restrictive power cords, making them much more portable and ideal for noise sensitive areas.
Designed with domestic users in mind the Husqvarna 120iB Leaf Blower Kit is a lightweight, and perfectly balanced blower from Husqvarna's cordless range. With lower noise levels and a powerful brushless motor this blower also offers 3 speed settings so you can reserve the battery power for lighter applications or ramp up the power for tougher clearing jobs.
From the STIHL range we have the BGA45 with an integral battery, perfect for lighter jobs around small gardens with a 5N blowing force and will easily clear an area of dry leaves up to 200m² on a single charge. Within STIHL’s Domestic AK range, we have the lightweight and compact design of the BGA57 Cordless Leaf Blower, this reasonably priced unit is suitable for clearing leaves, twigs and light debris around the home and garden. Featuring adjustable blower tubes which can be adjusted to suit the user’s height, a soft grip handle for added comfort and all operating control functions at touch of a fingertip. When used with the recommended AK20 battery, this blower has a run time of up to 18 minutes.
And, if you are already an owner of the Makita 18v LXT Range, why not add the DUB362 Twin 18v Cordless Leaf Blower to your arsenal of tools. Sold as a naked unit or as a Kit with x2 6ah batteries and a charger, this blower is one of the most powerful on the platform. Giving 54m/sec air velocity on high and 27m/sec on low, which is controlled with a handy variable speed control trigger through 6 stages, it will blow your socks off!
For the more tougher leaf removal jobs or larger gardens a Petrol-Powered Leaf Blower may be required. These handheld blowers deliver maximum power and blowing speeds. From Husqvarna we have 125B Petrol Leaf Blower with Cruise Control, its powerful 28cc 2-stroke engine and smart start features are ideal for the domestic homeowner whilst the 525BX Leaf Blower has been designed with the professional user in mind. Powerful and well balanced with up to 75% reduced emissions and 20% increased fuel efficiency due to the X-Torque engine. Also features an antivibration system to reduce fatigue when used in longer durations.
STIHL offer several 2-stroke models such as the BG56C-E and BG86C-E, these all-year-round models are perfect for keeping gardens clear of debris. Equipped with the ErgoStart feature for easy trouble free starting every time. With the added benefit of being able to attach a Vacuum Kit to effortlessly convert the blower into a suction machine or add a Gutter Cleaning Kit to clear leaves and debris from those hard-to-reach places.
Alternatively, if you prefer a 2-in-1 Petrol machine the SH56C-E Leaf Blower Vacuum with Shredder would be the one for you. Offering a 14:1 shredding ratio, this shredder vac has built in steel shredding blades to cut up leaves and reduce the amount of garden waste. The included catcher bag has improved dust filtration useful for when used in dustier areas such as driveways and pathways.
For easier maintenance and less messy fuel mixes, Makita offer the popular 4-stroke BHX2501 Petrol Leaf Blower. The only 4-stroke machine in our Leaf Blower range, a low emissions machine that is highly effective in clearing leaves and other garden debris, the MM4 engine allows for quieter operation than a 2-stroke counterpart, ideal for noise sensitive situations. Supplied with a convenient tool kit, extension pipe and flat nozzle with a Vacuum Kit as an additional accessory, sold separately. Comes with a 1-year professional warranty for both domestic and commercial users.
Last but not least, we also have a range of Backpack Leaf Blowers, a more efficient way of clearing larger, more commercial areas of fallen leaves and debris. High performing, with a more comfortable ergonomic fit, ideal for longer periods of use.
With so many Leaf Blowers to choose from, it can be very overwhelming, but rest assured our friendly team are always on hand to help and offer advice on what models may best suit you.
