This 3 day event is held in Alcester Warwickshire had a range of events on show from the
Husqvarna World 25m pole climbing championships - the top 50 climbers in the world battled it out for the World title. The Chainsaw Carving Championships had the best 25 carvers in Europe competing to take the title. A log to leg pole lathe championships, an extensive traditional woodland crafts area, horse logging demos, vintage forest machinery and steam driven saw benches make this event not one to miss out on again.
Showing off their impressive manufacturing skills, Husqvarna took along their
cordless 436Li chainsaw - this impressive chainsaw made over 100 cuts on one charge!
The highlight of the event for me has to be the World’s First Track v Tree Challenge on Saturday 20
th September.
Gravity defying pole climbing record holder Grant Gallier to climb a 25-meter vertical pole whilst sprint star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was to run 100 meters on the track. Who would come out victorious?
This once in a lifetime race was held at APF in Alcester Warwickshire. The race resulted in a tight finish with Grant becoming the ultimate victor with an incredible time of 9.90 seconds with Harry finishing in an also impressive 10.15 seconds.
Grant Gallier, from Oswestry, Shropshire holds the current pole climbing record of 9.077 seconds. He works as a grounds keeper and has been pole climbing since 2008, he began his career as a tree surgeon before beginning pole climbing competitively.
